Priced at $449,900***37.5 Acres***700+ feet lake frontage

I was very excited when the owners of this wonderful hobby farm selected me to help them find the new owners, and to start the next chapter in the history of the farm.

The property has an interesting history behind it: Carl Swanson immigrated to America from Sweden and homesteaded the farm in the 1880's.The original house was taken down and the existing two story home was built in 1900 by Carl's sons, Herman, Robert, and Richard. The Swanson brothers were respected carpenters and Herman built a number of creameries during his lifetime, including the Dassel and Cokato creameries.

After the house was completed, the house and farm was rented to an itinerant pastor. Farming did not turn out to be the pastor's calling and the farm was returned to the Swansons. Richard Swanson and his wife, Hildegard, moved into the house and raised their family of three children. The property had two more owners up to the point of the current owners purchasing the property.

The home has many updates but retains the charm and craftsmanship of yesterday-just like your very own Bed and Breakfast. In the early 1970's, the home had upgrades to the plumbing, wiring and insulation. In the late 70's to late 80's, the kitchen, family room were updated and the Finnleo Sauna was added. Replacement windows were installed in 1997. In 2000, the master suite was remodeled along with the second upstairs bedroom.

When the farm was first homesteaded, it was typical for an agrarian society. A small dairy herd was kept along with chickens and maybe some pigs. The land was used to grow feed for the livestock and the pasture was used for grazing. Over the years, the use of the buildings have changed when new owners came along. Horses replaced the cows, but chickens have remained a constant. The barn could be converted to a work shop or remodeled into a entertainment room for large gatherings.

If you need land to try your hand at growing vegetables or flowers; there is plenty of area that receives full sun. The tillable land is certified organic.

Seeing whitetail deer and wild turkeys on the property is a common occurrence. There are many suitable spots to set up a blind or tree stand and hunt on your own property. This is truly a sustainable property!

An added bonus to the acreage is the frontage on Big Swan Lake. Big Swan is well known as a good fishing providing the opportunity to catch walleyes, bass, northerns, catfish and panfish. I remember my grandfather would spend time fishing for sunnies on the north end of the lake. My dad would talk about the 20 pound northerns they would catch at the inlet. The fishing is still great and you will be able to spend your free time on the lake; both open water and ice fishing.

Please give me a call if you would like to visit this unique property. If you have any questions about raising livestock for your own use; I personally have experience raising chickens, goats, horses and honey bees.
